Experience a truly memorable, and enriching tour of the world famous Buffalo Bill Historical Center, considered the premier western museum in the country, and the second most visited attraction (behind Yellowstone national Park) in the greater Yellowstone region. Visitors of all ages will treasure a visit here, as there are five unique museums within the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The Buffalo Bill Museum The Buffalo Bill Museum explores the personal and public life of Colonel W. F."Buffalo Bill" Cody, telling his story in the context of the history and myth of the American West. You'll see how Buffalo Bill in an age without television or motion pictures, became the world's foremost communicator about the American West. The exhibits interpret the history of the American cowboy, dude ranching, Western conservation, frontier entrepreneurship, and perhaps most importantly the source of our concepts about the West. The Whitney Gallery of Western Art The Whitney Gallery of Western Art showcases one of the most important collections of Western American art in the world. Masterworks on display by George Catlin, Alfred Jacob Miller, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Frederic Remington,Charles M. Russell, William R. Leigh, N.C. Wyeth, James Bama and many others. Explore the artist's work environment, and discover their process of creation with a visit to the orginal studio cabin of J.H. Sharp, and the reconstructed studios of Frederic Remington and W. H. D. Koerner. The Plains Indian Museum The Plains Indian Museum tells the fascinating story of the Plains Indians, their cultures, traditions, values and history. Displayed here is an extensive collection of American Indian artifacts and features the art and culture of the most important tribes of the Northern Plains. "This is a living breathing place where more than just objects are on display" according to Crow historian Joe Medicine Crow. "Feel the spirits," as you enter the reconstructed Hidatsa earth lodge, and learn about the economic and spiritual importance of the buffalo, and the roles of warriors and hunters. The Cody Firearms Museum The Cody Firearms Museum boasts the largest, and most comprehensive gun collection in the world! The Winchester Collection is proudly displayed here along with selections from every other significant firearm manufacturer. Follow the evolution of modern firearms from the early days of the matchlock, flintlock and caplock guns right up to the most sophisticated examples of the modern firearm. You'll get a first hand view of the firearms that helped shape the West! Draper Museum of Natural History The Draper Museum of Natural History opened June 4th, 2002 being the first American natural history museum established in the 21st century. Featured here are twenty-thousand square feet of highly immersive and interactive exhibits, highlighting geology, wildlife, and the human presence in the Greater Yellowstone region. In this unique museum you'll make the transition from spectator to explorer as you wander down an interactive trail through sites and sounds of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
