Wandering through what Teddy Roosevelt called "the most scenic 50 miles in America", and right out our back door, lies the Northfork of the Shoshone river. Rated among the top ten freestone fisheries in the Rocky Mountains and one of the only places in the United States where anglers can fish for native Yellowstone cutthroat in an uncrowded and breathtaking setting. The river is managed as a wild fishery with all reproduction occurring naturally. Yellowstone cutthroat, rainbows, cuttbows, and brown trout are the predominant species found here. Present here as well are brook trout and Rocky Mountain whitefish. Great hatches of all major species are prevelent with stoneflies, mayflies, caddis, and midges in abundance. More than several tributaries along the main channel of the Northfork of the Shoshone river will provide excellent angling opportunities, with the average trout size being 16 inches, but it is not uncommon to land a 22 to 26 inch trout! Thus, the Northfork of the Shoshone river is a true gem for the seasoned fisherman and beginner alike, providing a memorable and fulfilling fishing experience for all!
